Participant Observer

Dear Readers,

Happy New Year to all! Let's resolve to make 2024 a more peaceful, harmonious, tolerant and hopeful year for everyone! Because of the holidays, not much is happening on the cross-cultural scene, but things will pick up in mid-January.

Friday (today), Ujamaa, Cooperative Economics will be the focus of the Kwanzaa celebrations at the Worldbeat Center. Every Day Vanilla has its final performance at the Moxie.

Saturday, there will be a Kwanzaa Meetup & 5K Run which will begin at the Worldbeat Center. Mr Tempo Sports Bar's Reggaetonlandia will feature "10 Artists Performing, Live DJ, Norteño and Banda".

Sunday, there will be a Bollywood New Year's Eve Party at the Encore Event Center. And, there will be a Salute to Vienna musical at the Civic Center to ring in the New Year.

Wednesday, the classic film The Rocking Horse Winner will be shown at the Coronado Library.

Next Friday, the 3-day soundON Festival gets underway at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library.

Next Saturday, the House of Puerto Rico will host a Parranda at the International Cottages in Balboa Park. Parrandas are a musical tradition that takes place during the Christmas season. Reggae icon Don Carlos will perform at the Belly Up.

Next Sunday, the San Diego International Jewish Film Festival will have a Trailer Preview Day where you can check out what's in store for the festival which starts at the end of January.

Please note that after two weeks in the main calendar section, ongoing events (such as exhibitions and plays) can be found in Ongoing and Extended Events.

Everyone here at the San Diego Participant Observer and the Worldview Project wish you fulfilling, illuminating, and culturally-rich week. See you next year!
